Employment Basis / Job Description

The Junior CFD Modeler incumbent will work with a team of senior RFD project engineers and clients to develop tailored computational fluid dynamic models to solve complex process problems or assist in the development of new products and processes. You will be required to have experience in the industrial implementations of the following software packages:

  • Ansys Fluent V.19 or newer or Star-CCM+
  • SOLIDWORKS or AutoCAD
  • Programming in C++
  • Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, etc.)

In addition to creating and running complex computational models, the successful candidate shall support project managers with overall data analysis, development and creations of specialized subroutines, and overall completion of client reporting inclusive of recommendations.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Excels working in a team environment under time constraints to produce engineering solutions meeting the project goals and objectives.
  • Successfully completes assigned design tasks based on direction given by senior engineers.
  • Capable of independently producing accurate, high quality work based on company expectations, internal standards, and client or project requirements.
  • Verifies, monitors, and reviews work products for accuracy, quality and completeness.
  • Strives to continue learning new technologies and methods associated with current design trends and software.
  • Identifies potential issues or other problems and develops recommendations to present to the Project Team.
  • Follows standard procedure for quality assurance, such as checklists and relevant operating procedures, for each document.
  • Works quickly and efficiently to maintain production goals and complete assignments on time, meeting internal and external deadlines.
  • Participate in meetings to identify requirements and present design recommendations.

 

Experience Requirements

  • Up to three years of experience as a CFD modeller working in a similar role / company or on academic R&D projects.
  • Proficient in Ansys Fluent V.19 or newer or STAR-CCM+ with experience running or familiarity with the following simulations:
    – Compressible and incompressible flows for Newtonian and non-Newtonian fluids
    – Mass and Heat Transfer simulations.
    – Multiphase flows including but not limited to atomization, dispersion, vaporizing, settling, boiling, separation, precipitation and erosion.
    – Chemical reactions, combustion and pollutant formation and treatment.
    – Open Channel Hydraulic simulation.
  • Experienced in writing subroutines and coding for various modelling application to improve model predictions and overall performance.
  • Proficient in blueprint reading and interpretation of technical drawings.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work with teams, both in-person and remotely.
  • Proficient in writing reports and expressing the appropriate recommendations to satisfy the overall project modelling requirements.
  • Strong understanding of variety of fundamental engineering principles and design procedures including but not limited to furnaces, boilers, kilns, general conveying ductwork, combustion, air pollution control systems, structural supports and platforms, piping systems, pumps, storm water detention, waste water systems, water treatment, etc.
  • Familiar with electro-mechanical systems including motors, gear drives and HVAC systems would be an asset.
  • Proficient using Microsoft Office product suite.
  • Strong organizational skills with ability to manage both soft documents and physical paperwork.
  • Chemical processing and instrumentation design experience would be an asset, but not a requirement.
  • Experienced in mechanical Finite Element Analysis (FEA) will be considered an asset, but not a requirement.

 

Education Requirements

  • Bachlor’s degree in Mechanical, Chemical or Environmental Engineering from an accredited University.
  • Preference for Master’s or PhD from a top university specializing in Fluid Mechanics, Chemical Processing, Heat & Mass Transfer and/or Environmental Systems.
  • Demonstrate a strong aptitude and understanding of mechanical systems and chemical reactions.

 

Citizenship / Work Permit Status – Canadian citizen or permanent resident, with valid permit and paperwork.

Compensation and Benefits – Salary will be based on experience level and qualifications with benefits provided.
