Community Program Team Leader – Youth Sports Leagues (Contract)

YMCA of Niagara Community Programs – Fort Erie

Minimum Hiring Rate:  $14.63 plus YMCA Membership

Start date: October 14, 2019

End Date: May 22, 2020

Part time: 13-18 hours per week.  Regular shifts include weekday evenings and daytime on Saturdays. 

 

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience delivering youth recreational and leadership programs and/ or Day Camps.
  • Prior experience in a league setting is also an asset
  • Minimum 1 year experience recruiting, supervising and coaching staff and/or volunteers
  • A comprehensive knowledge of basketball and volleyball, including rules and regulations
  • Referee experience in basketball and/or volleyball is an asset
  • Current Standard First Aid & CPR-C
  • The YMCA is looking for applicants who want to be a role model of healthy lifestyles and physical activity for youth, and make a difference within their community.
  • Proven strong programming, communication, administration and organization skills
  • Due to the age of participants served, candidates must be 18 years or older
  • Reliable transportation to programs throughout Fort Erie is necessary
  • Criminal Reference Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening [within 1 year from date of issue]

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Team Leader will be responsible for assisting the Coordinator of Community Programs with the planning, organizing and overseeing of League operations and program staff
  • Identify, recruit and train volunteers for coaching and support positions
  • Work with the Director and Coordinator of Community Programs to ensure a high quality of program is established and maintained
  • Assist the Coordinator of Community Programs in the supervision and coaching of Leagues Staff
  • Responsible for planning and implementing practices and games in both a YMCA branch as well as local schools.
  • Build relationships with children, youth and parents and be a positive role model
  • To be responsible for the safety and security of participants
  • Overseeing/organizing program staff to act as on-site facilitators during practice time
  • Confidently answer questions from the community, parents, and the Membership Branches regarding our Youth Sports Leagues
