Job Description
IMPORTANT – Commisso’s Fresh Foods is seeking temporary staff to join our team and support our community during this unprecedented time. Anyone that is currently on layoff from their current employer may be permitted to work for Commisso’s Fresh Foods during the layoff period without jeopardising their current job or role. If you are collecting Regular Employment Insurance Benefits you can still work in a part-time capacity provided that your weekly earnings are reported to Service Canada. Commisso’s Fresh Foods offers a wide variety of products that range from our in-house kitchen and bakery, fresh meat and produce to imports from all over Europe. When choosing the right products to carry, we focus on fresh, organic and speciality products that cannot be found within Niagara Region. Our customers depend on us to provide excellent products and accurate knowledge when it comes to purchasing groceries for their families. In the role of a Grocery Retail Clerk, you will be responsible for assisting the management team in the achievement of store and departmental goals and ensuring quality service to all employees, customers, and suppliers.
Start: ASAP.
Shifts: Days, afternoons, evenings, weekends and select holidays.
Job Type: Temporary Part Time, 3-month position with possibility to extension
Compensation: $14.00/hr + $2.00/hr premium

What you’ll do:
- Greeting customers and answering questions in a friendly manner, proactively assisting and providing accurate and timely information, making product/ service recommendations and accommodating special requests;
- Maintaining the overall appearance of the department;
- Ensuring cases, displays, and tables are well-merchandised and properly signed to showcase quality;
- Preparing, packaging, sorting, and pricing/labeling goods for customers;
- Stocking and rotating products in all displays, and ensuring that none are past the sell-by date;
- Meeting or exceeding Company guidelines regarding hygiene, presentation and customer service;
- Taking ownership of duties and responsibilities performed throughout the department; and
- Complying with all Commisso’s policies and procedures and maintaining customer confidentiality.
This job is also referred to as: salesclerk, stock clerk, store clerk, stocker, floor attendant.
What you will need to succeed:
- Previous experience in a grocery store or related food-handling role is considered an asset;
- Team player with a positive and energetic attitude;
- Exceptional customer service skills;
- Must be able to lift thirty (30) pounds;
- Must be able to stand at workstations for extend periods of time;
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment;
- Ability to be organized and to set priorities while meeting deadlines and managing interruptions;
- Ability to identifying challenges and proactively problem solve;
- Ability to work as part of a diverse team that embraces differences of opinions;
- Ability to remain professional is all circumstances; and
- Available to work: days, afternoons, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
