Job Description
POSITION: LIBRARY ASSISTANT (PART-TIME)
LOCATION: PUBLIC SERVICE
JOB SUMMARY: To provide readers’ advisory, information and reference service. Assists with organizing and conducting programs and class visits. Assists with collection maintenance.
DUTIES: Provides readers’ advisory, information, and reference service. Assists in the delivery of programs, may conduct class or group visits and tours related to the activities of the Department or Branch. Assists with collection maintenance. Performs general tasks related to the circulation of library materials, including check-out, check-in, memberships, fine/fee collection, and holds. May assist in providing direction of daily routines as required. Performs other related duties.
REQUIREMENTS: • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent “or” Library Technician Diploma or equivalent and a minimum of 6 months relevant experience
• Knowledge of basic reference tools and research skills
• Knowledge of automated systems, electronic resources and the Internet
• Good interpersonal and communication skills
• Ability to work accurately and efficiently under immediate supervision
• Basic typing/keyboarding skills
HOURS OF WORK: Weekdays, evenings, and weekends (including Sundays) as required.
Not more than 24 hours per week.
HOURLY RATE: $20.419 – $23.857 per hour (Pay Group 4, January 2018 schedule)
