Job Purpose | Overview

The General Machinist is responsible for creating quality parts produced on various machines and general shop equipment according to company plans, blueprints and other diagrams. Responsibilities will include reading and interpreting blueprints and manuals to determine production processes and requirements and inspection of quality parts for conformance to requirements.  The General Machinist will detect equipment malfunctions or out of tolerance machining and adjust machines, within capabilities controls or control media required to insure quality of production, and report all machine malfunctions to their immediate supervisor. This position requires an individual who is familiar with all types of machinery including CNC machines.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • VMC setup, program, operation
  • Study and interpret drawings, blueprints, manuals, specifications or sample parts to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished work pieces, sequence of operations, tolls to be used, materials for the job and set up requirements.
  • Operate various machines to make parts & jigs
  • Send finished parts to respective departments or crate for further finishing process Router setup, program, operation
  • Maintenance of VMC/routers as necessary. Detect equipment malfunctions and report to immediate supervisor
  • Responsible for keeping equipment and work area clean and orderly and perform basic preventative maintenance functions on equipment.
  • Expected to process a high volume of parts with accuracy and consistency
  • Verify dimensions of products for accuracy and conformance to specifications using precision measuring instruments.
  • Operate saws to cut pieces to size for further machining operations
  • Operate milling machines, bending tools, hand tools and drill press
  • Oversee router staff during second shift
  • Maintain up to date knowledge of industry standards and practices.
  • Safe knowledgeable operation
  • Any other additional duties assigned by supervisor and/or management

Qualifications

  • Engineering qualification, minimum of a Technician
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints
  • Safe setup and operation of machine tools and hand tools
  • Posses basic math skills to include but not limited to adding, subtracting, multiplication, division, geometry, trigonometry and algebra for the purpose of calculating material fabrication.
  • Strong work ethic and positive team attitude with the ability to work independently.
  • Basic computer skills
  • Mechanical troubleshooting capabilities
  • Must be able to work flexible shifts and changing work schedules
  • Good understanding of all safety issues in your work areas
  • Must be adaptable to a changing work environment, competing demands and is able to deal with frequent change, delays or unexpected events.

Physical Requirements

  • Able to stand for long periods of time
  • Use of PPE, including safety glasses and steel toe boots required.
  • Manual dexterity required
  • Repetitive work tasks may be required at times.
  • Working in a factory environment where temperature vary
  • Noisy Environment
