Regional Specialist, Health and Fitness

YMCA Health, Fitness and Aquatics branches- Niagara Region

Minimum Hiring Salary: $45,364.80 annually plus full YMCA membership benefits

Start Date: May 2018

Full time permanent, 40 hours per week

Availability Required: Days, evenings and weekends

 

NATURE AND SCOPE:

  • The Regional Specialist, Health and Fitness is responsible for the development and implementation of Health and Fitness programs throughout all Health, Fitness and Aquatic Centres.
  • The incumbent will implement and support specific programs for a predetermined amount of time. These programs may change and evolve over time.
  • This individual will have one or two direct reports to this position based on projects currently underway.
  • The incumbent will also be responsible for direct fitness program delivery for a portion of their time.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Degree in Kinesiology, Physical Education, or related field.
  • Certification and experience in Individual Conditioning, Personal Training, and Group Fitness (multiple streams).
  • YMCA Canada Fitness Trainer certification is an asset and will be required.
  • Health and Fitness expertise including a strong knowledge of the Fitness Industry.
  • 2 or more years management experience in the Health and Fitness industry (YMCA experience an asset, but not required).
  • Current Standard 1st Aid/CPR(C) from an approved agency.
  • Current Criminal Reference Check with Vulnerable Sector Search (within 1 year of issue) will be required upon hire.
  • Reliable transportation for travel throughout the Niagara Region.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provider regional oversight and expertise in the areas of Individual Conditioning, Fitness Orientations, Personal Training, Small Group Training Sessions, YMCA Kick Start, Group Fitness, Pre-Chorography, Older Adult programming and other areas as required.
  • Implement actions plans focused on specific projects to enhance Health and Fitness programming in all Centres.
  • Provide leadership for program development, implementation and monitoring.
  • Monitor and provide support for the implementation of action plans related to Fitness Orientations and Group Fitness.
  • Role model excellent program delivery and expertise in the area of Individual Conditioning and Personal Training.
    • Lead program reviews, gathering input from members, staff, volunteers and other stake holders, and provide recommendations to respond to data collected.
    • Maintain ongoing communication with Fitness Program Coordinators and Centre Managers.
    • Implement an adult focused fitness sales and retention strategy.
    • Develop and implement measurement tools and tracking systems.
    • Demonstrate sound time management and organizational skills.
    • Provide training, coaching and ongoing support for Coordinators, Fitness Coaches and Personal Trainers.
    • Develop tools for Fitness Coaches and Coordinators that promote consistency and quality in adult fitness program offerings.
    • Identify opportunities to better utilize technology related to fitness and member engagement.
    • Provide support and ensure high quality programming to health and fitness programs operating out of multiple locations.
    • Monitor commitment to service excellence by role modelling and maintaining YMCA SAM 2.1 standards.
    • Maintain strong knowledge of Fitness Centre member acquisition, retention and engagement strategies.
    • Understand and support YMCA philanthropic initiatives.
    • Assist with delivering the YMCA National Fitness Leader program as required.
    • Assist with delivery of fitness programming where required.
    • Develop and maintain strong relationships with community partners and service providers.
    • Collaborate, support, train and implement new health and fitness programs and services. Participate in training and adhere to the YMCA Child Protection Policies and Procedures as established by the YMCA of Niagara
    • Maintain SAM 2.1 Standards
    • Other duties as required
