Student Summer Archival Assistant (1 Position)
Job Description
Welland Curling Club is looking to hire a Summer Archival Assistant.
Hours per Week:
30 hours per week
Requirements:
• Willingness to learn archival principles and practices through guidance of the Welland Historical Museum archivist.
• Good computer skills, including the scanning of physical documents and the organization of those digital scans into a simple historical and subject filing system.
• Good communication and organization skills.
• Meet the requirements of the Canada Summer Jobs Grant program.
Duties:
• helping identify and assess the archival value of materials;
• processing of the collection, including physical arrangement (sorting, boxing, labeling);
• inventorying and describing of materials;
• creating database records;
• creating collection guides and other basic finding aids;
• drafting of a records retention policy and schedule for the historic records of the archive, utilizing recognized archival and records management practices
• communicating with the Board of Directors of the Welland Curling Club
• interviewing descendants of founding members of the Welland Curling Club; and
• planning and/or preparing for a related exhibit to celebrate 75 years of curling in Welland and South Niagara
