SUMMER CAMP GROUP, PROGRAM SUPPORT & FLOATER COUNSELLORS

 

The YMCA of Niagara Day Camp department is seeking individuals with energy, enthusiasm, flexibility, empathy and creativity who are interested in gaining skills and experience working with children!

 

Positions available in: Grimsby, Beamsville

Seasonal full time position (approximately 35 to 40 hrs/week) Monday to Friday from June 23 to August 31, 2018

Starting wage: $13.15-$14.00/ hour plus YMCA membership benefits

 

Group Counsellors are responsible for the safety, supervision and care of a group of 8 to 12 children.  They will lead a variety of camp activities for the children in their group throughout the camp day, and ensure they have an amazing camp experience.

 

Program Support Counsellors will support children with special needs, physical limitations or behavioral challenges in a 1 to 1 or 1 to 2 ratio, helping to integrate them into the camp group.   Program Support Counsellors may be required to support their camper with personal care and support with program adaptations to meet the needs of all campers.

 

Floater Counsellors are assigned as a Group Counsellor to a specific camp for a day or a week to assist with high registration and/or time off.  Floater Counsellors are dynamic individuals who can jump in to a variety of camps, and provide campers with a great experience.  Access to a reliable vehicle is an asset.

 

All camp staff will

  • Consistently communicate with parents and other team members to ensure a successful camp experience for everyone involved.
  • Actively participate in programming planning.
  • Participate in active games, sports, swimming and other activities.
  • Be energetic and flexible.
  • Work as part of a team to ensure that everyone has a positive camp experience.
  • Be looking to develop skills that are transferable to a variety of professional opportunities.

 

 

Qualifications:

  • Experience working with children and/or youth is an asset
  • Applicants must be 16 years of age or older
  • Values driven individuals who make excellent role models for children and youth
  • Experience working in day or residential camp is an asset
  • Energy, enthusiasm and flexibility
  • Current Standard First Aid with CPR-C
  • Criminal Reference Check – Vulnerable Sector Search is required for applicants 18 and over prior to hiring (issued in the last year)
  • The ability to participate in physical activity (including swimming), and work in an outdoor environment in various weather conditions
  • Program Support applicants – education or experience related working with children with special needs is an asset
  • Due to summer funding opportunities, priority will be given to applicants returning to school full time in September 2018

 

DAY CAMP OVERVIEW:

Summer Camps will run from July 2 to August 31, 2018 in St. Catharines, Welland, Niagara Falls, Fort Erie, West Niagara and Port Colborne.  Camp runs Monday to Friday from 8:30am to 4:30pm, with extended care from 7:30am to 6pm.
