Employment Basis / Job Description

RFD Consulting is currently seeking a senior Technical Sales Engineer to join our dynamic team either in the US or Canada. The Technical Sales Engineer will work with a team of senior engineers and management to bring RFD’s engineering services and expertise to its clients.

In this position, the candidate will be a key driving force in business development and bringing in customers from the US and Canada. The Technical Sales Engineer would be responsible for all steps from identifying potential leads, bringing new projects or R&D concepts, negotiating contracts and maintaining long-lasting relations with clients. The successful candidate will work cohesively with our team to develop a thorough understanding of RFD’s product and service capabilities and to achieve sustainable, profitable growth.

We are seeking an energetic, entrepreneurial individual with a strong technical engineering background in fluid mechanics as well as previous customer relationships. Strong communication skills are essential to the position. Traveling within North America will be required.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop client list for the company’s products and services and have a strategy for targeting potential customers in a structured way
  • Understand clients’ engineering needs and project challenges and be able to identify how RFD’s solutions can add value or help solve their problems. Educate customers on our product and service suite
  • Be accountable for the entire sales cycle from initial interactions / initiations to the successful closing of projects, as well as post-sale client services
  • Be able to write technical sales proposals and price quotes; be able to negotiate sales contracts with the oversight of senior management
  • Prepare technical submissions and presentations to customers
  • Identify potentially profitable sales areas and present solutions based on RFD’s products and services
  • Can work with customers at all levels within their organization, e.g. engineers, project managers, executives, etc.
  • Collaborate internally with management on sales and marketing strategies and roll-out plan; develop and implement regional business plans together with the management team
  • Work with the internal engineering team (e.g. CFD modelling team, drafting personnel, field / operating consultants, etc.) on potential ways to further develop new products and services, as well as marketing materials
  • Identify and attend relevant conferences or other marketing / sales events and initiatives

 

Experience Requirements and Desired Skills

  • Minimum of 10+ years of experience in a similar role – technical sales in an engineering related or highly technical area, such as mechanical, chemical, environmental, civil engineering, etc.
  • Strong understanding and / or first-hand experience in CFD modelling / FEA, having the technical ability to communicate with both clients and internal engineering teams
  • Thorough understanding of the fundamentals of computational models and flow dynamics, such as determination of input and output factors as well as real-life applications
  • Experience in mechanical, chemical, environmental and civil / structural engineering will be highly regarded for the position
  • Ability to provide technical product demonstrations; comfortable with technical presentations and conversing on complex process engineering topics
  • Familiarity with existing flow modelling software programs is highly desired, e.g. ANSYS software suite, Star-CCM+
  • Familiarity with physical modelling technics and applications for physical testing of industrial equipment using various instrumentation would be an asset
  • Strong ability to identify main stakeholders on projects and customer side
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work with teams, both in-person and remotely
  • Strong organizational skills, structured mindset
  • Demonstrate past track record in achieving sales targets and delivering solid commercial results
  • Willing to travel 30% to 50% of your time within US and Canada; occasional travel to European

 

Education Requirements

  • Master’s or PhD degree in engineering (Mechanical, Chemical or Environmental Engineering, Math, Physics, Computer Science) from a renowned university
  • An MBA or executive training is a plus
  • P.Eng, PE or PMP recognition would be an asset
  • Chemical processing and instrumentation design experience would be highly regarded
