Position Title:

Start date: ASAP following hire – Contract end date is March 31/17

Rate of pay: TBD

Hours of Work: 40 hours per week, days, evenings, occasional weekends and special events

Supervision:  Employed by the Fort Erie Native Cultural Centre, responsible to the policies as determined by the Fort Erie Native Cultural Centre’s Board of Directors and under the direct supervision of the Executive Director or designate.

Job Purpose:

The Coordinator will highlight the natural skills and abilities of the Indigenous community, build partnerships with Indigenous and non-Indigenous organizations, and develop a pre and post evaluation, with the purpose of reducing racism and stereotyping of Indigenous people. Increase knowledge and humanize Indigenous people with the benefit being to break down societal barriers which prohibit the true revitalization of relationships between non-Indigenous people and the Indigenous people of Niagara.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Create partnerships with Indigenous and non-Indigenous organizations
  • Create positive awareness of Indigenous people through various forms of media highlighting successes in Employment, Education and the Environment
  • Create a pre and post evaluation that will assess the attitudes and changes in attitudes toward Indigenous people
  • Design survey with input from partners and the FENFC Executive Director
  • Distribute the images/profiles/stories of successful Indigenous individuals to the appropriate organizations to be displayed including; the Public Library, FACS Niagara, Pathstone Mental Health, Contact Niagara, YMCA of Niagara, etc.
  • Determine along with Partners where and how images displayed will maximize effectiveness.
  • Work toward improving socio-economic conditions for Urban Indigenous peoples by collaboration on policy, program, planning and projects
  • Research various Foundations interested in learning about Indigenous people and supporting the vision, mission and needs of the Fort Erie Native Cultural Centre Inc. ( FENFC )
  • Seek a partner/stakeholder committed to considering the adoption of findings of an engagement, assessment, progress, research, evaluation, frame work or other such directional documentation on Urban Indigenous matters
  • Deliver Cultural Competency workshops to organizations wanting more specific knowledge on Indigenous people

General:

  • Will work closely with other FENFC staff as per Centre process.
  • Maintaining effective communications at all times, written and verbal.
  • Meet mandates required by program, partners and FENFC
  • Ensuring that all confidentiality requirements are met as per FENFC policy and the law.
  • Other related duties as may be assigned from time to time by the immediate supervisor.
  • To prepare accurate activity and statistical reports and submit according to set deadlines.

 

Qualifications:

  • Knowledge and experience in Indigenous community development.
  • Relevant college or university level accreditation or equivalent work experience.
  • Knowledge of Indigenous language and culture.
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills.
  • Exceptional computer skills required
  • Group facilitation skills.
  • Knowledge in the area of Indigenous and non-Indigenous resources
  • Ability to work as a member of a team.
  • Superior ability to work to deadlines with minimum supervision.
  • Excellent management, planning skills and the ability to successfully facilitate multiple interest situations.
  • Must have a current, clear, vulnerable sector police check.
  • Must have a clean driver’s abstract and a current driver’s license.
  • Must have reliable transportation
