Job Description

City of Welland is looking to hire a Water & Wastewater Programs Technician.

Hours of Work:

35 hours per week for approx. 3 years

Wage:

32.50 – 34.19

Requirements:

Three (3) year College Diploma in Civil Engineering, or equivalent.
• Full membership, or eligibility for full membership, with Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO), Engineer in Training (EIT) or C.E.T. designation with full membership, or eligibility for full membership with OACETT.
• Three (3) years’ experience in leak detection and inflow & infiltration investigation within a municipal setting.
• A strong understanding of municipal water distribution and wastewater collection systems.
• Strong data review, analysis and problem solving skills.
• Experience with water and wastewater modelling is an asset.
• Working knowledge and experience in various computer applications including Access, AutoCAD, G.I.S, Manifold and Microsoft Office Suite, along with the ability to learn and utilize internally-used computer software. Knowledge of AutoCAD Civil 3D is considered an asset.
• Working knowledge of the Occupational Health & Safety Act regarding trenching, traffic control, confined space entry, etc.
• Possess a valid class “G” Ontario Driver’s License.

Duties:

Under the direction of the Infrastructure Planning and Asset Management Supervisor, the Temporary Water & Wastewater Programs Technician will be responsible for coordinating programs associated with watermain leak detection and wastewater inflow and infiltration initiatives, including program creation, investigations (field and office) and data analysis.

The duties listed are not meant to provide a description of each and every job performed but only those which represent the core functions of the job.

• Creating and coordinating watermain leak detection programs including, leak correlation and district metering. This includes reviewing, analysing and reporting on the findings from these programs.
• Creating and coordinating inflow and infiltration (I/I) investigation and reduction programs, such as smoke testing investigation, private side direct storm drain and weeping tile disconnections and coordination of an expanded City’s weeping tile disconnection (SWAP) program. This includes reviewing, analysing and reporting on the findings from these programs.
• Tracking and analysis of the City’s numerous combined sewer overflows and associated Provincial Environmental approvals to maintain City compliance.
• Administration of the City’s storm water management facilities (pond & oil grit separators), each of which has their own Provincial Environmental approval that requires annual review, analysis and reporting.
• Provide assistance to other sections of the Infrastructure and Development Services Department, as required
• Other duties as assigned.
