Job Description

Job Gym is currently assisting Barbican, located in Fort Erie. Barbican provides high design, high quality product offerings consisting of Commercial Lighting, Architectural Walls, Ceiling Systems and Acoustical Solutions.  They are currently seeking to fill an Accounting Assistant position.  This position will be reporting to the Controller, will be primarily responsible for the performance of a variety of duties from backroom calculations to customer service. Responsibilities will include processing accounts payable, bank deposits from customers and reconciling our accounts receivable. Other responsibilities would be to perform month end closing procedures, assist with reconciliations, commission expense accruals and overall smooth operations of the financial management capacity.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Audits accounts to make sure payments are timely
  • Process accounts payable invoices for both the Canadian and American companies for invoices without a purchase order
  • Process biweekly payment cheque/direct deposit/ach runs for payables
  • Process bank deposits from customers, reconcile A/R accounts in both US Company and Canadian Company
  • Prepare monthly statement reconciliations, credit card reconciliations, customer deposit (deferred revenue) reconciliations, check commission expenses on a weekly basis
  • Perform month-end closing procedures including journal entries and general ledger account reconciliations, commission expense accruals, petty cash transactions, and commission reconciliations
  • Prepare and post all intercompany transactions including all journal entries and intercompany account reconciliations ensuring compliance with policies, procedures, and transfer pricing agreement between the Canadian and US related party company
  • Prepare monthly reports including warranty claims, total marketing expenditures on print material samples, and other ad-hoc reports as requested
  • Maintain an organized filing system for accounts payable, paid invoices, and other accounting records while maintaining strict confidentiality of accounting information
  • Assist with other administrative and accounting duties as required including but not limited to accounts receivable invoicing, collection calls, and order entry.
  • Performs related clerical duties, such as word processing, maintain filing and record fax systems, faxing and photocopying

Qualifications

  • Graduate degree/ diploma in accounting required
  • Minimum of at least (1) year working in a related office administration or accounting position.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, QuickBooks or any related accounting software
  • Knowledge in ERP Systems would be considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of Canadian Generally accepted accounting principals.
  • Understanding of US GAAP Accounting, Canadian, & US State Taxes Filings would be an asset.
