JOB POSTING – Animal Care General Maintenance Personnel – Animal Care

The Animal Care General Maintenance personnel is responsible for daily maintenance and upkeep of animal exhibits as well as surrounding areas within the park with the aid of Zookeepers.  This position requires strength, stamina, agility and accountability. This Team Member will perform duties both on and off zoo grounds. Duties include, but are not limited to, pick-ups from various chicken farms, transporting animals to and from the zoo from Toronto or Hamilton airport.  Feed pickups both locally and out of the region.  The safe operation of discharge pumps, chainsaws, hand tools, and small machinery.  The successful candidate will work to support all areas of the Animal Care Division; large animal farm experience is a plus.

Duties:

  • Work flexible hours if required
  • Follow instructions from Animal Care Manager
  • Transport shipments responsibly, adhering to safe driving practices and procedures, ensuring safe transportation of all cargo
  • Load and unload orders and shipments
  • Perform maintenance duties around the zoo to support the Animal Care Division
  • Interact as needed with the public and quests while working on-premises to improve the guests’ experience
  • Safely operate heavy equipment
  • Safe use of chainsaws, discharge pumps, pressure washers and miscellaneous hand tools.
  • Aid in basic carpentry and maintenance to existing structures and animal holding areas

Requirements:

  • Proven maintenance experience to perform preventative maintenance where required
  • Knowledge of power tools and their use
  • Highschool diploma or general education degree
  • G license with abstract
  • Certification for the safe operation of forklifts, skid steers and/or related equipment is a plus
  • Ability to operate water discharge pumps and generators
  • Professional presentation and attitude
  • Able to work efficiently as a part of a team as well as independently
  • High levels of organizational, time management and prioritizing skills
  • Adherence to all related company policies and procedures
  • Attention to detail in all areas of work
  • High level of personal integrity
  • Must be available to work weekends, holidays, weekdays
