What is the Army Reserve?

  • The Army Reserve is the part-time component of the Canadian Armed Forces
  • Army Reserves is a non-contractual service
  • It is a local, Part-Time job: 1 night per week, 1 or 2 weekends per month
  • Reservists work part-time with their Regiments while pursuing their education or full-time careers.
  • Reservists complete basic and occupational training either on weekends or over the summer months while practicing and building upon these core skills through the year.

Pay and Benefits:

  • Competitive pay starting at $101.96/day
  • Earn up to $700/month working part-time, weeknights and weekends, from Sept – Apr
  • Take advantage of the full-time summer program, May-August, and earn up to $12,000.
  • Once enrolled you can be eligible to receive up to $2000 back for each year of completed post-secondary education.

  • Partial Dental coverage and pension plan

What you need to apply:

  • Photo ID: driver’s license, passport or Ontario photo ID card
  • Canadian birth certificate or Canadian citizenship certificate
  • An official high school transcript with a minimum of grade 10 completion

Training Overview:

NCM (Non Commissioned Member): Entry level position with career advancement opportunities. Grade 10 is minimal requirement.

  • Basic Military Qualification- Every other weekend over fall/winter or 5 weeks full time in summer
  • Trades Course- 4-7 weeks during summer depending on occupation, some weekend options available as well

Officer: Leadership role. University Degree or working towards one is minimal requirement.

  • Basic Military Qualification- Every other weekend over fall/winter or 5 weeks full time in summer
  • Basic Military Qualification Land- 11 weeks 1st summer- Basic Leadership
  • Trades Course- 11 weeks 2nd summer

Training includes:

  • Regulations and general service knowledge
  • Fitness training
  • Dress, discipline and deportment
  • Teamwork and Leadership
  • First Aid
  • Navigation
  • Weapons handling on C7 Service Rifle, C9 Light Machine Gun, C6 General Purpose Machine Gun, 84mm Carl Gustov, M72 Rocket Launcher, C13 Grenade, M203A1 Grenade Launcher
  • Soldier skills
  • Drill/Marching
