John Howard Society of Niagara is seeking 1 Community Justice Worker

The Community Justice Worker is a position that provides supervision to clients in the Niagara Region, who are serving court ordered sanctions in the community through programs such as Community Service Order Supervision, Federal Diversion, Direct Accountability and Intermittent.  Clients are both youth and adult. This includes seeing clients through program processes from adjournment court to successful/non-successful completion.  Work hours shall be determined by the needs of the programs and may include evenings and weekends.  This position reports to the Justice Services Program Supervisor.

You will have:

  • Successfully completed a Correctional Worker/Community Justice Diploma, Social Service Worker Diploma, University Social Science Degree or equivalent
  • A minimum of 2 years or more related work experience
  • Experience working with offenders with a demonstrated ability to effectively engage and motivate them
  • Knowledge of the community resources available in the Niagara Region
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Preference will be given to bilingual applicants (French)
  • A valid Ontario Driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record
  • Use of a reliable vehicle to travel throughout the Region
  • Valid automobile liability insurance coverage of a minimum of one million dollars.
  • Satisfactory criminal reference check in accordance with the John Howard Society of Niagara policy.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills with an ability to interact with clients, the public and members of the judicial system
  • Ability to work well under pressure
  • Ability to work independently and possessing good problem solving abilities
  • Excellent organization skills, i.e. time management, ability to prioritize, etc.
  • Excellent computer skills including the ability to use Word, Excel and to manipulate spreadsheets

Tentative Salary Range: $49,586.42 to $56,298.89
