Community Programs- Fitness Leader
YMCA of Niagara Community Programs
Minimum Hiring Rate: $17.13 per hour plus YMCA Membership
$0.54 premium applies when working off site
Start date: To be confirmed based on Government and Public Health guidelines
Part time up to 15 hours per week (September to June) days, evenings and weekends
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Current enrolment in, or post-secondary diploma or degree in, Recreational Leadership, Child Studies, Physical Education or related field is an asset
- YMCA Group Fitness Certification OR Current YMCA Canada Individual Conditioning Level 2/Personal Training with experience leading groups
- Strong background in fitness program delivery
- Experience working in programs for children or youth
- Experience in youth drop-in programs and/or Day Camp is an asset
- Current Standard First Aid & CPR-C

- Proven strong programming, communication, administration and organization skills
- Due to the age of participants served, candidates must be 18 years or older
- Reliable transportation to programs throughout the Niagara Region is necessary
- A clear and satisfactory criminal reference check inclusive of the vulnerable sector search (CRC VSS) issued for the YMCA of Niagara
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Research, plan and deliver activities for youth, focusing on fitness-based activities and experiences
- Direct, support, and assist Community staff in the delivery of fitness-based recreational programs and special events for youth age 10 to 14
- Assist the Director of Community Programs and Coordinator of Community Programs to evaluate program success and suggest areas for improvement
- Research costs of materials, equipment and resources when planning programs to ensure budget targets are met
- Present program plans and budgets to Director of Community Programs for approval
- Participate in facilitation of staff training sessions in partnership with the senior leadership team
- Other duties as required
All YMCA Staff are required to perform the following additional job duties as related to COVID-19:
- Follow procedures and policies to help reduce the spread of COVID-19 as established by the YMCA of Niagara and informed by the Ministry of Health and Niagara Region Public
- Ensure established groups are maintained and support the tracking of interactions between staff and participants on
- Lead activities that support social distancing and promote the health and safety of everyone
- Encourage, promote and role model social distancing and responsible health
- Follow guidelines and sound judgement about when to wear personal protective
- Visually observe participants and other staff and report any new symptoms immediately
- Participate in self-screening when required, and act as a screener when required for staff and
- Immediately report any health and safety concerns to your supervisor and health and safety
- Stay home when you are sick or have any COVID-19 Follow established call in procedures.
- Participate in ongoing and scheduled cleaning and disinfecting of equipment and
- Follow proper hand washing procedures and ensure participants in your care are doing the
- Participate in necessary meetings and trainings online utilizing your own device and Wi-Fi.
