Full-Time Customs Import (1 Position)

Job Description

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Preparing and processing client Import shipments to CBSA both electronically as well as manually when required.
  • Receive, review, and process import transaction for truck and air modes or transport, including border clearance and in-bond when required.
  • Determining classification of Import products for release with CBSA as well as determining the valuation, OGD regulations or Import permits required prior to release and with adherence to all laws and regulations with Canada Customs and other government departments.
  • Contacting clients to request missing documentation, information, CUSMA/USMCA free trade agreements or paperwork required prior to release and final accounting of HVS shipments for audit.
  • Assist with data logging of Low Value Courier shipments.
  • Perform all aspects of customer service, including but not limited to answering phones, responding to e-mail requests and receiving and responding to incoming faxes. Being able to assist as well as following up with any inquiries from clients, customers, trucking companies or general phone inquiries.
  • Responding to all Clients and Customers in a timely, efficient, courteous and professional manner while adhering to all company policies and regulations.
  • Required to work some holidays

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Minimum 1 to 2 years Customs Release and Import experience preferred and familiar with HS Classifications, CUSMA/USMCA free trade agreements, CFIA, NRCAN and all other government department regulations.

LANGUAGE SKILLS
Must have strong written and verbal communication skills and must be able to interact effectively with both internal and external clients.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to calculate costs and be able to determine value for duty, including any discounts, additions/deductions or transportation costs included.

REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions both written and oral. Ability to work in a time-sensitive environment. Must be able to work both independently and as a team.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS

Keyboarding (30 wpm).
Familiar with PC.
Willingness to work beyond 8 hours; willingness to work before & after daylight hours.
Effectively manage stress.
Excellent organizational skills.
Able to work cooperatively and cohesively with others.
Must have safe and dependable transportation
