Full-Time General Machinist (1 Position)
Job Description
Westridge HR, on behalf of our Manufacturing Client located in the Hamilton area, is currently hiring a highly skilled and detail oriented General Machinist specializing in manual lathe operation.
The General Machinist is accountable for the manufacture of machined parts from drawings and samples. This role has additional responsibilities for set-up, tool choice, tool grinding (HSS and Carbide), feed & speed settings, pitch calculation and operation of machinery used to produce parts and materials in accordance with quality specifications/standards.

Job Type: Full Time, Permanent
Shifts: Daytime plus occasional overtime
Compensation: $26 – $30, commensurate with experience
Accountabilities:
- Produce machined parts from detailed sketches/drawings and from samples
- Machine raw materials and rough castings from materials including steel, stainless steel, aluminum, brass, copper, bronze, titanium, magnesium along with various rubbers & plastics
- Manufacture thread gauges
- Close tolerance & high finish machining
- Ability to create complex parts using manual lathe including but not limited to; Internal and external UNC, UNF, ACME, Whitworth and Buttress threads, tapered threads, taper turning, eccentric turning, and grooving
- Manual & machine broaching
- Standard milling/turning operations using manual mill/lathe including but not limited to; Indexing operations, threading ,drilling, tapping, reaming, bolt circle calculations, machine proper surface finishes and close tolerances
- Key cutting & Key-Seater applications
- Standard surface grinding & Blanchard grinding operations
- Perform inspections and testing
Qualifications:
- Secondary School Diploma/GED
- 5+ years’ experience in industrial machining
- Proven ability to effectively troubleshoot and repair a variety of industrial machinery and equipment in a parts/equipment manufacturing environment
- Advanced ability to read and understand engineering blueprints, drawings, and sketches
- Strong ability to interpret tolerance symbols & tolerance applications
- Ability to use layout & measuring tools
- High level of attention to detail & accuracy
- Self-starter, self-regulated; ability to work efficiently with minimal supervision
- Demonstrated ability to organize and prioritize workload
