The Niagara Peninsula Conservation Authority (NPCA) is a community-based natural resource management agency that protects, enhances, and sustains healthy watersheds. With over 63 years of experience, the NPCA offers watershed programs and services that focus on flood and hazard management, source water protection, species protection, ecosystem restoration, community stewardship, and land management. The NPCA is one of 36 Conservation Authorities in the Province of Ontario and manages 41 Conservation Areas within the Niagara Peninsula watershed held in public trust for recreation, heritage preservation, conservation, and education.

Seasonal OPSEU Union Positions – Summer Student Positions

Summary of Duties
As part of the Programming team, this role is responsible for educational and recreational program delivery, special events and other activities as assigned. Duties may include delivering educational and recreational programming to children, youth and adults, as well as providing guided hikes and tours of historical buildings to park visitors. This role is responsible for providing exceptional delivery of educational material and curriculum content, and excellent customer service to customers/patrons/students, as well as ensuring the safety of program participants.

Duties and Responsibilities
• Assist in the planning and delivery of the summer day camp program
• Research and deliver educational programming, guided tours and hikes, and special events on natural and cultural heritage and conservation
• Assist in the maintenance and upkeep of heritage buildings and assets, including building interiors, gardens, artifacts and demonstration materials
• Assist in the set-up and take-down of programs and teaching areas, and events
• Provide general oversight of visitor activity, ensuring safety of customers and conservation area
• Communicate effectively and courteously with visitors, promoting good public relations and an enjoyable customer and participant experience
• Assist in the general operation of the Conservation Area

Qualifications
• Grade 12 diploma or equivalent
• Experience delivering educational and/or recreational programming to children, youth and/or adults
• Strong customer service skills with the ability to resolve challenging customer situations
• Successful applicants will be required to complete a satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Check
• Valid CPR & First Aid an asset
• Valid High Five: Principles of Health Childhood Development Certification an asset

SECURITY, MAINTENANCE

As part of the Operations team, this role is responsible for security and general maintenance activities at an assigned Conservation Area. Duties may include providing park security oversight and performing general facility and property maintenance. Individuals will safely operate equipment to ensure the upkeep of the Conservation Area as a recreational park for visitors as well as maintaining and supporting the natural resources of the area.

Duties and Responsibilities
• Provide general oversight of visitor activity, ensuring safety of customer and park
• Communicate conservation area rules and regulations accurately to visitors
• Perform routine inspection of facilities and grounds to ensure security
• Maintain cleanliness of the park and facilities
• Assist in the construction, restoration and maintenance of Conservation area grounds, trails and facilities
• Safely perform landscaping and minor building maintenance
• Communicate effectively and courteously with visitors, promoting good public relations and an enjoyable customer experience

Qualifications
• Grade 12 diploma or equivalent preferred
• Minimum 1-year customer service experience
• Experience related to Security or Maintenance
• Valid G class driver’s license preferred
• Valid CPR & First Aid an asset

GATE POSITION
Summary of Duties

Under the direction of the Area Superintendent, the incumbent is responsible for the performance of gatehouse operations and customer service along with assistance in general maintenance of the parks as required. Duties may include processing cash receipts through issuing use permits, daily cash handling oversight and account reports/reconciliations. This role is responsible for providing excellent customer service to the patrons and ensuring the safe condition of the conservation area.

Duties and Responsibilities
• Responsible to operate cash register/POS machine to issue all conservation area use permits
• Ensure proper cash handling procedures
• Implement basic accounting practices for reconciliation of daily receipts and sales
• Record all reservations, bookings and sales accurately
• Responsible to maintain gatehouse in orderly and clean condition, and ensure grounds keeping is performed to ensure safe and clean condition of the area
• Communicate conservation area rules and regulations to visitors effectively and accurately
• Provide information about conservation areas and area services, events and programs to customers
• Respond to telephone and general inquiries
• Provide general oversight of visitor activity, ensuring safety of customers and park
• Communicate effectively and courteously with visitors, promoting good public relations and an enjoyable customer experience
• Assist in the general operation of the Conservation Area

Qualifications
• Grade 12 diploma or equivalent preferred
• Minimum 1-year customer service experience
• Experience related to administration and sales
• Valid G class driver’s license preferred
