Job Title: Personal/Developmental Support Worker
Job Type: Permanent
Positions: 2 (1 Part-time, 1 Casual)
Job Location: Welland, ON
Wage: $20/hour
Hours: Fridays to Tuesdays: 4-10:30pm (32.5 hrs/week)
Ability to cover sick days and vacations, as well as working evenings and weekends required.
Overview
Personal Support Worker / Developmental Support Workers have a unique role to play in an individual’s life. Simplified, a PSW/DSW assists an individual with their tasks of daily living.
We are seeking a permanent part-time and a casual PSW/DSW or caregiver for an adult female with Cerebral Palsy. The successful candidate must be comfortable with home based care. Joining our team will require home maintenance, full personal care, quality time, and recreational time.
Responsibilities
Personal Care
– Ensure the individual’s overall health and well-being is in good standing
– Provide full personal care including toileting, bathing, oral hygiene, and dressing
– Administration of oral medications
– Assistance with eating during meals
– Safely operate and navigate power wheelchair
– Ensure transfers (with ceiling lift) and manual positioning are done securely
– Provide emotional support to individual when required
Communication
– Willing to learn a non-verbal approach to communication as the individual does not use words to communicate, but has a spelling board
– Being part of a team, interpersonal communication is highly valued
– Ensure all documentation (daily logs, sign off charts) are accurate and maintained
Home Maintenance
– Shopping (grocery and other)
– Cleaning (laundry, washing dishes, sweeping, mopping, dusting, garbage, and all other household tasks)
– Meal planning and preparation
Recreational
– Empower and support the individual during social events
– Assist with developing and supporting the individual’s goals and objectives
– Planning and initiating recreational activities
Job Requirements
– First-Aid and CPR Certification (certification considered an asset, however First-Aid knowledge is required)
– Police Vulnerable Sectors Check (within last 6 months, required upon employment)
– Fully Licensed (G Class) with clear driver’s abstract (required upon employment)
– Fully vaccinated against COVID-19 (non-negotiable as individual is medically vulnerable)
– Ability to wear a mask during the entire shift (removal during eating/drinking an exception)
– Must possess sufficient English language verbal and written communication skills. Bilingual (French) is considered an asset but not required.
– Must be legally authorized to work in Canada
– Must possess the following qualities: patience, compassion, being self-driven and a team player, willing to learn different approaches to supports
– Must be able to perform tasks that require sitting, standing, kneeling, stooping, pulling, and pushing.
NOTE: PSW/DSW certification not required but considered an asset. No experience necessary, we will train as everything taught is person-centered.
