Full-Time Project Associate / Engineering Technologist (1 Position)

Job Description

Purpose:

As a Project Associate you will be continually challenged in a dynamic environment, assisting in analyzing and designing highly customized architectural window and door products for our elite clientele. Your education and experience as a Mechanical Engineering Technologist will be tested through identifying unique challenges within customer projects and developing proven solutions as well as participating in ongoing product development with an eye towards our ever-changing market.

Critical Success Factors:

  • Thorough knowledge CAD software including AutoCad, Inventor or Solidworks.
  • Proficient comprehension of engineering drawing, principles, design procedures and standards.
  • Knowledge of applicable procedures, legislation and requirements.
  • Proficiency with MS Office, particularly Excel and Word.
  • Familiarity with Import/Export documentation.
  • Familiarity with production processes, continuous improvement and Lean processes.

Overall Expectations:

  • Work closely with Project Manager and project design team to review new client orders. Study order quotations, architectural plans and other project information to identify areas where additional information and knowledge is required to proceed.
  • Strategize with the project team to develop a plan to obtain missing information and identify unique design challenges within projects that will require the participation of management, production, and engineering personnel to develop solutions.
  • Prepare detailed design drawings from base plans while utilizing existing resources.
  • Develop timelines and schedules for resolving design challenges and communicate effectively with team personnel to maintain project schedules.
  • Prepare drawings for presentation to clients, architects, and contractors, focus on achieving a high level of information accuracy, drafting accuracy and overall aesthetic presentation.
  • Revise client drawings as required until approval from all external parties is obtained, while continually identifying changes that require further engineering attention or that impact project costs.
  • Upon client approval being achieved, prepare highly detailed and exacting production documentation packages including unit drawings, specific details, cut lists and reports to be presented to manufacturing.
  • Follow orders through the various stages of information processing and manufacturing to study Tradewood methods, monitor effectiveness of documentation and assist in issuing corrections or clarifications where required to maintain production schedules.
  • Participate in ongoing product development with a keen eye towards effective, manufacturable solutions while maintaining the aesthetic qualities our clientele demand.
  • Develop tools on an ongoing basis to improve and expedite the information processing and drafting processing with a focus on continuous improvement.
  • Work on multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining deadlines and communicating timelines effectively.
  • Attend meetings as assigned.

 

Qualifications:

  • Graduate of Mechanical Engineering Technology program in good standing with a strong interest design, manufacturing and problem solving.
  • Proficient understanding of contract documents and legal requirements associated with construction policies.
  • Manual dexterity required to perform drafting and graphical function.
  • Strong planning and organization skills.
  • Natural sense of curiosity.
  • Outstanding communication, analytical, and interpersonal skills.
  • Enjoy challenges.
  • Ability to adjust to and accept changes in direction and priorities and effectively responds to change.
  • 3 years of experience in design, engineering and/or construction.

 

Remuneration will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
