Contract Recreation and Leisure Assistant (1 Position)

Job Description

Position Summary:

Responsibilities for assisting in the development, planning, implementing and evaluation of the recreation and leisure programs and services relative to the identified needs of Tanguay Place residents.

 

Qualifications:

A team player who is enthusiastic, well organized, patient and self-directed individual.  Previous experience in the field of recreation and working with adults with a disability.  Related recreation and leisure studies and/or equivalent.  Volunteer experience would be an asset. Have a valid driver’s licence and be willing to drive the Tanguay Place van.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • assisting and promoting residents’ physical abilities
  • assisting residents with leisure education and supporting their recreational and leisure pursuits
  • assisting with planning and support of community outings and leisure time integration
  • providing our residents with opportunities to develop skills for recreation and leisure pursuits
  • provide unstructured recreational activities
  • provide transportation and accompany residents with appointments, activities and outings
  • assist in the facilitation and communication of community recreation, leisure activities and other special events
  • promote appropriate resident behaviour and social conduct at all times
  • encourage, promote and expand our volunteer network and recommend appropriate recognition of volunteer services
  • assist in the routine monitoring and maintaining of resident care plans
  • participate in resident care plan and team meetings, as required

  • being available for flexible hours Monday to Friday as well as evening and week-end duties
  • maintaining effective working relationships with all staff, volunteers, residents and their significant others
  • able to work independently and as a team member
  • promote a positive awareness and image of Tanguay Place with the public and other community agencies
  • basic understanding of the Collective Agreement
  • be knowledgeable and practice Health and Safety procedure of Tanguay Place.
