Job Description

Job Gym is supporting the new Grand Canal Retirement Residence to recruit Registered Practical Nurse candidates.  This position is part time, contract.

 

ACCOUNTABILITY OBJECTIVE:

Responsible for the efficient operation of the Health and Wellness Department.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

Reporting to Director of Wellness, the incumbent will be responsible for serving the needs of the clients, within the scope of practice. This includes:

  • Participated in assessing the need of individual residents and organizes for the provision of care to promote maximum independence
  • Carries out planned assignments as designated by the Director of Health and Wellness for effective resident care, taking into account the physical, spiritual, social and emotional need of the individual.
  • Maintains client records and required documentation in accordance with policies and procedures and legislative requirements.
  • Interprets and adheres to company policies, procedures, practices and philosophies.
  • Manages medications as prescribed and observes changes in condition and reports them on the personal charts and to the Client Services Manager. Monitors the safekeeping of drugs and narcotics, and ensures narcotic count is correct.
  • Assists in maintaining a clean, safe environment for residents and personnel.
  • Participates in orientation and in-service programs and on standing committees as assigned by the Client Services Manager.
  • Liaises with family members and acts as a resource for questions, concerns regarding practices or related health care issues. Reports family concerns to the Client Services Manager and other staff.
  • Maintains effective communication and good interpersonal relations with medical and allied staff, clients, families and other departments.
  • Reports unusual occurrences, safety hazards or illness or problems with clients to the Supervisor.
  • Participate as a member of the multi-disciplinary team, in the development and implementation of plan of care for residents that supports independence
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

Performance Requirements

  • Continuously follow the principles of “good customer service” and ensure that these values are demonstrated in day to day office practices.
  • Continuously follow the standards outlined in the Approved standard of care, policies and procedures and ensure that these values are instilled in the day to day performance of the staff.
  • Complies with all relevant polices and procedure
  • Demonstrate the ability to interact effectively within the team, with residents and clients and families as well as external service resources.
  • Assist the Director of Health and Wellness in evaluation the performance of the PSW; assist with appropriate documentation. Keeps the Executive Director/ Director of Health and Wellness informed of any staff member s whose performance is less than satisfactory.
  • Completes all required annual mandatory training/education
  • Complies with the occupational Health and Safety, workplace safety and insurance act, and Workplace Hazardous Material Information System. This including health and safety, hazard, reporting incidents, fulfilling responsibilities under the applicable legislation, as well as participating in in-services and fire drills
  • Participates in team conferences as required.
  • Complies with all relevant corporate policies and procedures.
  • Completes all required annual mandatory training/education.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.

 

BACKGROUND/QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Maintains a current registration as a Registered Practical Nurse with the College of Nurses Ontario (CNO )
  • Knowledgeable of the Health and Safety regulations.
  • Experienced in geriatric or retirement residence.
  • Valid First Aid and CPR Certificate and maintain in good standing
  • Good written and verbal English skills.
  • Vulnerable Persons Sector Police Check current and acceptable upon application
  • MOL (Ministry of Labour ) Occupational Health & safety for Supervisors Step 5
  • TB Test & Physician Fitness Statement

 

Physical Job Requirements

  • This position requires the incumbent to be able to:
  • Work in an environment where there are many distractions and attention is needed on numerous issues at a time.
  • Walking, stretching and standing on a variety of surfaces for at least 3 hrs per day.
  • Lift alone, up to 40 pounds.
  • Pushing, pulling wheeled equipment up to 50 pounds.
  • Bending, stooping on a regular basis.
  • Climbing stairs and able to work in confined spaces.
