Revenue Clerk

THIS IS A TEMPORARY POSITION FOR APPROXIMATELY EIGHTEEN (18) MONTHS

Summary of Duties:

In a back-up capacity, responsible for maintaining ownership changes, mailing address changes and mortgage company interest. Responsible to investigate water meter variances, leak alarms, non-reads and non-compliance. Responsible for preparing and balancing all designated special event parking identified as Partridge Hall and Meridian Centre.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist in maintaining the tax system and files for sales of property, ownership / mailing address changes, transfers from law firms, assessment listings (MPAC), and notification from homeowners.  Research, interpret and provide follow-up related to billing, assessment and taxation.
  • Act as liaison with the City’s meter exchange contractor and supplier to facilitate the repair or exchange of meters.  Identify issues and manage the auto reading software.  Responsible for the complete investigation of non-read, leak and broken pipe alarms, backward meters, and reading variances as identified from the Automated Meter Reading reports.
  • Identify meters requiring repair and/or replacement and prepare work orders as appropriate.  Determine properties that require special attention to obtain compliance, prepare reports, letters for delivery and prepare work orders for shut off.
  • Act as liaison with the Meridian Centre and Performing Arts staff to ensure all events have been communicated for those identified as “Special Event” parking.    Coordinate with the Operations Manager of the Security Company to ensure all identified lots are staffed accordingly.  Responsible for the preparation and balancing of all special event parking.
  • Perform sorting, wrapping and counting of the daily coin collection by operating mechanical sorters and wrappers.  Prepare full coin boxes for bank deposit.
  • In co-ordination with the Intermediate Bookkeeper, obtain current pay station reports and count / balance coin and cash cassettes from Garden Park and Carlisle pay stations and replenish bill cassettes.
  • Act as a liaison with and responsible for preparing required tenant contracts and forwarding to owners to authorize mailing direction of water billings. Review, follow-up and maintain up to date records of legally binding tenant contracts.
  • Reconcile monthly payments received from Honk mobile on the City’s behalf, upload and reconcile re-occurring monthly garage permit payments.
  • Perform other similar and related duties as required.

Position Requirements:

  • Minimum Grade 12 education or equivalent.
  • Completion of the Municipal Tax Administration Program.
  • One year of Municipal experience, property tax and assessment related.
  • Proven accounting and proficiency in mathematics.
  • Financial Accounting courses or diploma an asset.
  • Proven experience and proficiency with Microsoft Office suite and other City applications such as Vailtech, AMANDA, and Work Manager.
  • Experience with and knowledge of the Municipal Act, Assessment Act and all other relevant legislation.
  • Experience with plans and maps.
  • Effective time management skills and attention to detail with the ability to organize work to meet deadlines, multi-task, and work independently in situations with minimal supervision.
  • Exceptional customer service skills with a strong sense of public service.
  • A demonstrated commitment to enhancing a safety culture.

Pay Group 6 – Minimum $50,012 annually; Maximum $55,550 annually

Expected Work Location: City Hall

Hours of Work: Currently Monday-Friday 8:30am – 4:30pm
