Full-Time Shift Supervisor – Afternoons – Machine Shop (1 Position)
Job Description
Express Employment Professionals is recruiting for a well-respected and reputable custom machine shop in St Catharines. This client manufactures for the power generation, energy, automotive, mining, and oil and gas industries. They have a demand for quality, and a high level of ISO certification and standards. With an increase in business and demands, they are now hiring an afternoon shift Supervisor to join their team. This is a full time, permanent position, with many attractive perks.
Key Responsibilities Include:
- Supervising, coaching, training and mentoring a team of 20 -25 employees.
- Overseeing the operations and work performance of specialty machinists, CNC programmers and operators, Mill and Lathe machinists, CMM programmers, and cylindrical grinding employees.
- Providing sound, technical supervision and leadership to the team
- Maintain a safe and efficient workplace
- Ensure all company policies are always adhered to (ISO quality environment)
- Implement the production schedule, making necessary changes to ensure employees are effective throughout their shift
- Work side by side with employees to troubleshoot any job-related issues
- Continual improvement initiatives
- Communicate expectations to employees and report results to the necessary team members
- Act as a liaison between operations manager and team members
Keys to Success:
- Well-rounded machine shop knowledge making unique/custom parts. Manual & CNC. Milling, turning, grinding, assembly.
- Minimum 5 years working in a machine shop and 2 years of supervising and training experience
- Strong inter-personal skills.
- Critical thinker.
- Strong troubleshooting/problem solving skills.
- Able to make good decisions and be accountable for their actions. results focused, troubleshooting, dealing with diverse parts, methodically trying to fix concerns on parts and processes
- Style flexing with employees to help communicate effectively
- Preference given to candidates with post-secondary education in a manufacturing disciple, such as Machinist or Tool & Die Maker

Shifts:
- Afternoon shift is 4 days a week (Mon – Thur) for 10 hour shifts
- Day Shift is 5 days a week (Mon – Fri) for 8 hour shifts
- Rotation is 3 weeks of afternoon, and 1 week of days. This allows the afternoon shift supervisor to have a 3 day weekend 3 weeks of the month.
Wage: Negotiable upon experience and background.
