Full-Time Ships Carpenter/Technician
Job Description
Scott’s Marine Interiors is a respected leader in the marine industry based in Niagara specializing in refit/retrofit and customizations including but not limited to ships accommodation spaces / crew quarters / wet spaces and galley outfitting of commercial vessels Canada wide since 2005.
We are currently looking for individuals for our winter works projects. In this role we are looking for an employee who will tend to all areas of construction and maintenance onboard ships and on-going projects.
Rate of Pay $23.00 – $28.00 per hour pending experience
Supplemental pay types: bonus pay & overtime pay
Key Accountabilities
- Planning, assembling and executing work as assigned by Project Manager / Lead Hand
- Operating and maintaining a variety of manual tools and power tools such as skill saws and power drills, mixing equipment and measuring tapes etc.
- Ability to read and understand blueprints and procedures
- Demonstrate flexibility to ensure deadlines are met
- Bring any issues or possible delays to management’s attention and propose solutions
- Other duties as required
Qualifications & Experience
- Minimum valid “G” Ontario driver’s license
- Minimum 5 years general carpentry experience
- Strong verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills
- Work effectively and efficiently while maintaining a safe work environment
- Flooring experience is an asset but not necessary
Working Conditions
- Work is preformed locally (approximately 50% of the time) and at a distance requiring travel for extended periods (approximately 50% of the time) All accommodations and meals will be arranged provided by Scott’s Marine
- Work may be performed on a ship, while sailing or in an industrial setting
- Work may require a rotational job schedule depending on the customer and the project. This can include nights and weekends.
- Hours are typically 9 hours per day and possibly 6-7 days per week. Shift premium for all working hours after 44 per week
- You will be required to work in small groups, under daily direction of the Project Manager or Lead hand. This work may involve prolonged periods of standing, crouching and bending
- You will be required to wear personal protective equipment, such as hard hats / eye protection / hearing protection / respirators / safety shoes and other job specific protective equipment as required
- You will be exposed to environmental conditions such as hot and cold temperatures / working both indoors and outdoors in areas that are dirty/dusty/wet and noisy and areas with frequent vibration
- Lifting to a maximum of 80lbs, heavier objects may be lifted in conjunction with other employees or equipment
- Resolve project issues and make recommendations to improve productivity
