Full-Time Wasa-Nabin Indigenous Children and Youth Program Coordinator (1 Position)

Job Description

The Wasa-Nabin Program Coordinator is responsible for the Wasa-Nabin program, which is grounded in cultural traditions providing a sense of belonging for urban Indigenous children and youth ages 13 – 18. The program offers a variety of strategies such as one-to-one activities, group activities, leadership opportunities and family circles to encourage positive behaviours and wellbeing.

The program supports individualized goals to enhance the areas of need; supporting social skills, educational intervention, individuals with disabilities, violence prevention, children in care or at risk of being in the care of the Children’s Aid Society, 2SLGBTQ+ supports, and positive nutrition and physical activity practices. The Wasa-Nabin program provides a space where urban Indigenous children can feel safe to be themselves and accepted.

Requirements:

• Education or experience in social work and/or experience working within Indigenous communities.
• Knowledge of social, cultural and recreational needs and interests of Indigenous children and youth
• Ability to work professionally, collaboratively with Indigenous children, youth and their families as well as agency, community and agency personnel
• Knowledgeable about health, social and economical influences that impact Indigenous people in Niagara.
• Ability to file quarterly reports to funders, maintain files, and keep administrative aspects of program up to date.
• Experience managing a program budget, following financial controls, and reporting on financial goals of the program.
• Excellent skills in both written and oral communications
• Proficiency in MS Office 365 software an asset
• Must have valid driver’s licence, Insurance and reliable vehicle.
• Must have or able to obtain a clear CPIC for the Vulnerable Sector.
