Full-Time Yard Worker/Loader (1 Position)

Job Description

Job Gym is currently assisting a St. Catharines based employer to recruit a Yard Worker/Loader.  This is a full time position, starting at $16.00 per hour with benefit options upon successful completion of 3 month probationary period.  The position is currently seasonal but opportunities for permanent employment are available.

 

The Yard Employee is responsible for general duties in the yard including loading, unloading of company delivery vehicles, customer vehicles as well as maintaining the inventory in the yard.  The Yard Employee is directly responsible to the Yard Foreman.

 

DUTIES:

  • Helping contractors and other customers find product, load/unload vehicles.
  • Operate the yard forklifts once training and certification has been achieved.
  • Operate the saws in the cut shop once the employee has been given instructions on the safe operation of the saws.
  • Operate cutting torches once employee has been given sage operating instructions.
  • Keep the yard, cut shop, special order bins and area in a clean and presentable appearance.
  • Unload transport trucks with product for the store and yard and insure packing slip is correct, sign and forward to receiver.
  • Place all received product in designated area promptly.
  • Ensure all products leaving the yard are on delivery tickets.
  • Attend Health and Safety Committee meetings and training if requested by store management and Committees.
  • Be knowledgeable about all products stored in the yard and in the store.
  • Use proper material handling techniques to ensure minimal damage to yard inventory.
  • Be familiar with the grades, dimensions and species of lumber stocked in the yard.
  • Be able to work in the yard during adverse weather conditions with proper clothing.
  • Assume other duties as assigned by the Yard Foreman or Store Manager.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be physically fit to perform laborious tasks including heavy lifting
  • Experience in a similar role is preferred
  • Forklift experience is a strong asset
