John Howard Society of Niagara is seeking an Addictions Counsellor (permanent, full time)

The John Howard Society of Niagara is searching for Addictions Counsellor.  This position will be located throughout the Niagara Region including all our four locations.   The addictions counsellor will aid in the rehabilitation of Offenders bound by either a Probation Order, Conditional Sentence Order, and/or Parole Certificate who are mandated by the Court, Parole Board or directed by the Ministry to participate through individualized and/or group programs and services.

You will have:

• Demonstrated knowledge of assessment / counselling skills and techniques, case management and documentation, interpersonal and empathetic interview strategies, knowledge of community agencies, services and resources, intervention techniques and crisis management skills and excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Excellent interpersonal skills with an ability to interact with clients, Probation Officers, court judiciary, community partners and staff from other programs
• Ability to deal with high risk clients who were initially being detained in custody facilities, and are now under the supervision of probation order
• Ability to work well under pressure
• Ability to work independently and possessing good problem solving abilities
• Computer knowledge and proficiency, particularly in Microsoft Office software, Email, Internet, Office Tracker, Caseworks
• Preference will be given to bilingual applicants (French)

Job Related Specifications:

• Must hold a minimum of a Post Graduate addiction/concurrent counsellor /social worker degree/diploma or certificate.
• A minimum of one to two years related work experience, however 3 – 4 years of work experience would be preferred.
• Valid Ontario Driver’s license.
• Use of reliable automobile to travel throughout the region.
• Valid automobile liability insurance coverage of a minimum of one million dollars.
• Be able to provide a valid security clearance that aligns with access to the Ministry of Solicitor General institutions and Probation and Parole Offices

Salary Range: $50,891.69 – $58,924.89
