Job Description

Position Summary

The Corporate Controller provides leadership and co-ordination of the Company financial reporting, budgeting and planning, ensuring that the Company procedures conform to accepted accounting principles. The Corporate Controller is also responsible for management and supervision of the office/accounting staff and for general office management.

Specific Responsibilities

  • Manage the accounting operations including the review of journal entries, payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable and statutory reporting.
  • Assign and authorize cheques, purchase orders and invoices.
  • Establish and monitor internal controls to ensure that accounting activities are in accordance with established legal regulatory and company policies and procedures.
  • Implement and monitor internal controls to ensure that accounting activities are in accordance with established legal, regulatory, financial and company policies, processes and procedures.
  • Prepare and analyze reports, including: monthly, quarterly and annual operating results for each entity; performance against budgets; monthly financial statements and external reporting to financial institutions.
  • Manage foreign exchange transactions.
  • Direct and coordinate the preparation of annual operating and capital budgets.
  • Coordinate the year-end audit and preparation of audited financial statements.
  • Develop and lead initiatives to identify operating costs, variances and develop performance and variance analyses and work with the various departments to improve and control current processes which impact customer quality.
  • Manage research and development program for CCRA and accounting requirements.
  • Responsible for the accuracy and timeliness of financial information.
  • Support new systems or project selections and implementation from a strategic finance and internal control perspective.
  • Provide advice and guidance on all accounting matters including financial systems, record keeping, analysis, and reporting.
  • Responsible for full management of the company’s office and accounting team, including hiring, training and mentoring staff
  • Set goals and targets relating to the quality and productivity of the company’s office and accounting team, and facilitate continuous training and improvements to the process.
  • Other related duties as required or assigned.

Requirements

  • University degree in Business/Accounting, with advanced degree.
  • Professional accounting designation (such as CA, CPA, CGA, CMA) required.
  • A minimum of five years of professional accounting experience in a retail environment
  • A minimum of five years of supervisory experience
  • Knowledge of accounting principles, practices and applicaitons
  • Extensive experience and knowledge of all aspects of corporate accounting and financial management.
  • Thorough knowledge of all relevant statutory Federal and Provincial financial requirements.
  • Proficient in SAGE accounting software.
  • Advanced knowledge of MS Office and Excel
  • Able to work well under pressure
  • Proficient communication, interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Strong/proven organizational and analytical skills.
  • Experience overseeing audits performed by external audit firms.
  • Financial analysis, budgeting and some strategic planning experience.
