On-call Kitchen Staff
YWCA Niagara Region

Location: Niagara Falls and St. Catharines

The YW is looking for an exceptional member, who has a high level of integrity, is kind, non-judgmental, and self-motivated. We are looking to staff our kitchens with individuals who bring a wide range of meal prep and cooking experience, have knowledge around special diet requirement ex. food allergies, celiac, diabetes, etc., and come with an open mind and understanding of the population served.

Your Day to Day:

We have an immediate opening for On-call Kitchen Staff. You will be working to ensure daily meals are prepped and served at our Niagara Falls and St. Catharines kitchens. Your day may include the following: meal preparation, cooking, volunteer supervision, cleaning and other tasks as needed.

Are you up for it?

  • We need you to be professional and understanding to the needs of our participants
  • We need you to be open to working with and supervising volunteers
  • We need you to have experience in meal preparation and cooking for large groups
  • We need you to have an understanding of special diet requirements i.e. food allergies, celiac, diabetes, etc.
  • We need you to resolve challenges quickly and without chaos.
  • We need you to be willing to occasionally work outside of your working hours. We have to attend staff meetings ensure that we all work together as a YW team member and that we maintain our standards. This is a critical element to our success as an organization
  • We need you to be healthy and safe! You are important to us! If we are not healthy and safe then we cannot provide our guests with a comfortable, compassionate experience.

Need to have:

  • Meal Prep/Culinary Experience
  • Safe Food Handling
  • WHIMIS
  • Level C First Aid and Vulnerable Screening Clearance (Police Check).
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.

Nice to have:

  • Experience in working with homeless and/or marginalized individuals
  • Bilingual applicants

Salary: $14.50 /hour

Required education:

  • High school or equivalent

Required licenses or certifications:

  • Safe Food Handling

CPR/First Aid Level C
