Type of Work: Part-time

Hours of Work: Tuesday to Thursday 9:00am-5:00pm (Summer Hours: 8:00am-4:00pm)
24 hour flexible work week

Salary: $21.86 per hour

Start Date: Immediate or as soon as mutually agreed upon

Indigenous Homeward Bound Fort Erie (IHBFE) supports sole-parenting Indigenous women in overcoming barriers to meaningful employment, improved well-being, and lasting prosperity. Through safe housing, access to culture, quality childcare, education, life skills, reliable transportation, and coordinated case management, we provide comprehensive, culturally grounded support. In this role, you will work collaboratively to empower participants to achieve their goals, from completing post-secondary education to securing sustainable, career-track employment.

Qualification & Requirements
A 2-year College Diploma in Social Service Work, or a related field.
Previous experience in a similar role is an asset.
Must have or be able to obtain a satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Criminal Record Check (CPIC).
Must hold a valid Ontario Class G driver’s license with a clean driver’s abstract.

Primary Responsibilities
Recruit and maintain relationships with landlords and local housing providers.
Maintain a current list of available housing units in conjunction with Regional Homelessness Prevention services.
Assessment of housing and support needs of people referred to the Fort Erie Native Friendship Centre.
Assist and liaise with other services and support needed to secure housing.
Periodic unit inspection to ensure health and safety conditions are being kept.

Knowledge & Skills
Strong understanding of Traditional Cultural knowledge and the ability to apply it when supporting community members, using an Indigenous perspective alongside awareness of western approaches.
Knowledge of the Residential Tenancy Act and supportive housing.
Knowledge of the criminal justice system, concurrent disorders and issues affecting the homeless.
Knowledge of the Ontario Support Disability Program and Ontario Works.
Familiarity with homeless outreach initiatives and the shelter system.
Strong interpersonal skills, including conflict resolution and trauma-informed support.
Strong organizational skills, including planning, meeting deadlines, and working well both independently and as part of a team.
Proficiency in computer use and digital tools for programming materials and marketing.
Knowledge of the Fort Erie Native Friendship Centre, as well as surrounding Indigenous and non-Indigenous organizations, to help connect community members, youth, and families with appropriate supports.
