JOB SUMMARY

We are looking for Developmental Support Workers to join our team! We can offer Casual, Part Time and Full Time Opportunities. Compensation begins at $26.79 per hour.

The Support Person (SP), in cooperation with the Primary Support Person, is to support and follow through with the requests and needs identified by the supported individual. The SP will obtain the person’s feedback throughout all activities, being flexible and recommending necessary changes regarding services and supports selected by the person. The SP will document all planned service and supports accordingly. The intent in planning with and supporting the person is to promote personal growth, a high quality of life and independence for a full, worthwhile, healthy, productive life. Each person’s outcomes, goals and needed supports will be met through the implementation and monitoring of each person’s Person-Centered Plan.
The SP’s role under the guidance of the manager is to support people to plan for and live the lives they choose in collaboration with the person’s, other programs and co-workers support circle. All supports and plans will maintain a community-based approach. This support person is responsible for the effective day to day functioning of the person’s home and support team. They will operate as a role model and mentor to other support persons within the person’s home, other association programs and within the community. The SP will provide support in an environment of inclusion, rights, respect, individuality and independence; upholding CLPCW’s Vision/Mission/Values statement, strategic plan and MCSS regulations/legislation.

EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL
  • A diploma in Developmental Services, Social Services or Personal Support Services.
  • A demonstrated commitment to the Mission, Vision and Values of the organization.
  • A minimum of 1-year experience supporting people with physical and intellectual disabilities, autism, mental health as well as challenging personal expression (behavior).
  • Experience in supporting people in their daily activities of their choice.
  • Knowledge and understanding of how to facilitate and support Person Centered Planning.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • Comfortable with computer applications is an asset.
  • Must be able to work all shifts: days, evenings, nights and weekends
  • Experience working in a union/nonunion environment is strongly recommended.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to exercise flexibility, initiative, good judgement and discretion.
  • Superior organizational and time management skills
  • Detail oriented and ability to work to tight timelines
  • Excellent analytical and organizational skills
  • Ability to communicate clearly; written and verbally
  • Ability to work independently and productively; use, or to be familiar with, various computer systems and software, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook etc.
WORKING CONDITIONS

The Support Person working conditions vary, as conditions often change based on the needs of the person supported. Support person may be required to work days, evening, nights and weekends. Support Person may be required to stand for extended periods and work outdoors for most of their shift. The position may require driving the agency’s vehicle to provide support to the people supported.
