Seasonal Adventure Club Program Support Leader

Job Description

Positions available in St. Catharines and Niagara Falls
Dates: Saturdays 8:45 am – 3 :15 pm in July and August 2022
Specifically July 23, 30 and August 6, 13, 20 and 27th with training in advance.
Flexible schedule though staff must commit to a minimum of 3 Saturdays.
Option to work in fall program as well.
Rate: $15.25/hr.

Adventure Club is designed to provide children who are at-risk or in vulnerable
situation with a positive, outdoor recreational program. Children can enjoy being
a kid, feel safe and included, develop positive relationships, and celebrate their
uniqueness. Adventure Club staff have a passion for supporting and developing
resiliency in children who need it the most.

Program Support Leaders are responsible for working with a variety of
participants with special needs, physical or behavioural challenges, or medical
considerations in Adventure Club.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Experience working with children and/or youth with specific needs
• Values driven individuals who make excellent role models for children and youth
• Experience working in day or outdoor recreational program is an asset
• Energy, enthusiasm, and flexibility
• Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Training (CPI) is an asset
• Current Standard First Aid with CPR-C
• A clear and satisfactory criminal record check inclusive of the vulnerable sector search (CRC VSS) issued for the YMCA of Niagara
• The ability to participate in physical activity and work in an outdoor
environment in various weather conditions

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensure YMCA Adventure Club is an inclusive experience and to implement strategies to achieve this goal
  • Plan and deliver programs for participants following YMCA objectives
  • Support participants with behavioural, physical, or developmental challenges
  • Assist with program implementation and adaptation of activities to meet the needs of all participants in the group
  • Read, understand, and apply information from participant profile
  • Make quick decisions to ensure maximum participant integration and safety
  • Understand and commit to confidentiality
  • Greet parents/guardians each morning when they drop off children and in the evening at pick up
  • Support and work as part of a staff/volunteer team by remaining flexible (willing to learn new skills, alter skills)
  • Responsible for the safety and security of staff and participants
  • Respond to first aid and emergency situations as required and check for potential health and safety hazards at all times when on duty and complete incident reports when necessary
  • Embrace diversity and inclusion of all individuals
  • Follow CPI Non-Violent Crisis Intervention guidelines (when certified)
  • Participate in training and adhere to the YMCA Child, Youth and Vulnerable Persons Protection Policies and Procedures document
  • Other duties as assigned
