The NRNC strives to deliver a wide range of high-quality programs and services to support and advance the well-being of Indigenous individuals, families and the community.

 

Position Summary:

 

Under the supervision of the Board of Directors of the Corporation, the Executive Director is responsible for the development and delivery of Friendship Centre services and programs. In addition, the Executive Director is responsible for the day-to-day administration of the Corporation’s affairs and physical operations.

 

Responsibilities:

 

The Executive Director is responsible for, but not limited to, the following:

●      Manage the human, financial, property and material resources of the Friendship Centre and administers the day to day operations (program supervision, financial responsibility, implements techniques for estimating, monitoring expenditures, ensures accurate and timely record-keeping, controls budgets, program, staff and client matters, etc.), ensuring all legislative and Centre requirements and policies are met;

●      Maintain a high level of knowledge of First Nation, Métis, and Inuit culture, lifestyles of Indigenous people, Indigenous programs and services, government program focused on Indigenous people;

●      Ensure that priority issues and concerns for the Friendship Centre’s Indigenous community are designed to improve the quality of life for Indigenous People in an urban environment by supporting self-determined activities which encourage equal access to, and participation in Canadian society and which respect Indigenous Cultural distinctiveness;

●      Keeps the friendship centre culturally vibrant by ensuring regular cultural programming is provided to the membership and our community at the centre staff

●      Secure funds for the Centre by fundraising, identifying new program funding, writing proposals and partnering with other agencies, corporations and organizations.

●      Maintain close liaisons and builds new collegial relationships with federal, provincial, municipal, Indigenous and local agencies;

●      Establish and maintain effective culturally safe/competent/sensitive program delivery and relationships with families, funding agencies, community groups, and staff;

●      Evaluate and support the development of individual employee skills and the ability to work independently by maintaining a cohesive team environment.

 

Skills Required:

 

The Skills required for this position include:

 

●      Ability to manage multiple projects/tasks at once: Set priorities, develop a personal schedule, record goals, and track progress.

●      Excellent oral and written communication skills: speak, listen, and write clearly. Able to understand questions and convey appropriate information in response.

●      Good reading comprehension skills: read and comprehend information in work-related procedural documents.

●      Strong interpersonal skills, including ability and motivation to work and interact with a variety of people, and experience and success in motivating and managing volunteers and staff.

●      Problem solver who can assess issues and identify their causes, generate solutions, and make recommendations/decisions when appropriate.

●      Team player with the ability to work with and be a supportive member of a team or group.

●      Leadership skills to positively influence others to meet and exceed goals that are in the best interests of the organization and the community.

●      Flexible and able to work irregular hours and some weekends when required.

●      Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook)

 

Qualifications:

 

The Qualifications required for this position include:

 

●      Bachelor’s degree preferred from an accredited college or university in a related field.

●      Extensive knowledge and/or lived experience with First Nations, Métis, or Inuit culture, including history, perspectives, values, spirituality, and community life.

●      In-depth knowledge of urban Indigenous community needs, solutions, trends, and gaps.

●      Extensive and current knowledge of legislation, practices, standards and policies in delivery of social, cultural, recreational, educational, health services to urban Indigenous peoples;

●      Experience and knowledge of the functions of a Board of Directors and working with urban Indigenous members, community, and volunteers;

●      Ability to communicate and positively interact with a diversity of stakeholders

●      Knowledge of Human Resources management in Ontario

●      Knowledge of Federal and Provincial Legislation applicable to employment standards, human rights, occupational health and safety, charities, taxation

●      Knowledge of non-profit organizations

●      Criminal Reference Clearance (CPIC) and Vulnerable Sector Clearance are requirements of the employment offer

●      Valid driver’s licence and reliable transportation
