Internship Program Assistant – Energy Efficiency

We are hiring a Student/Youth Intern to help deliver our environmental programs this summer

Duration and rate of pay: It is a full time (30 hours per week), 14-16 week contract position, at a rate of $20.80 per hour.

Location: Hamilton, Ontario – Currently, work-from-home / hybrid arrangements are in place, with the requirement to attend our EcoHouse office in Stoney Creek and attend community events at various locations in Hamilton approximately 1-2 days/week (occasionally 5 days) including on some evenings and weekends.

About Green Venture:

We are an established and impactful non-profit environmental organization that works to empower Hamiltonians to implement greener practices in their homes and communities to make our city a climate champion. We operate out of EcoHouse – an 1850s farmhouse in east Hamilton with 2 acres of gardens and sustainable living demonstrations. Our team is focused on making positive environmental action happen every day and we use creativity, practical tools, and demonstrating environmental action to engage our community to achieve our mission. We are building our team to support our key strategic objectives: to reduce climate vulnerability and impacts on our community, to help Hamiltonians make their day to day lives greener, and to work with Hamilton youth to drive climate action.

 About the Position:

The Energy Efficiency Program Assistant will support the delivery and coordination of Green Venture’s home energy efficiency programs in Hamilton. The Program Assistant will join our Energy team working directly with clients to support their home energy retrofit projects.

The successful candidate will be an enthusiastic team-player with a passion for working on climate change solutions in the field of energy efficiency, an excellent communicator with previous customer service experience, and a multi-tasker with strong writing, organizational and problem-solving skills. 

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Receive and place customer service telephone calls and emails
  • Maintain solid customer relationships by handling questions and concerns with speed and professionalism
  • Manage database records, compile data, and write reports on customer issues
  • Perform data entry and research as required to verify customer information, and troubleshoot customer problems
  • Develop energy efficiency-related program marketing, education and outreach materials and content to support more impactful residential retrofits
  • Develop and conduct surveys with clients that implemented energy conservation measures
  • Create engaging and educational posts related to residential energy conservation measures for Green Venture’s blog, newsletter, traditional and social media outlets 
  • Support delivery of program workshops and webinars (online or in-person)
  • Support general Green Venture communications, inquiries and events
  • Other opportunities may arise from time to time that require support

 We are looking for candidates that meet most of the following qualifications:

  • A combination of post-secondary education/experience in a relevant field (e.g. environmental studies, geography, sustainability, communication, or business administration).
  • Enthusiastic and creative self-starter, with demonstrated initiative and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, organization, and interpersonal skills.
  • Previous customer service experience and/or experience delivering community education programs, or planning events. 
  • Experience working with diverse groups and/or community-based organizations.
  • Proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and experience using social media (Instagram, Facebook), web, and graphic design software (e.g. Photoshop, Canva, WordPress, MailChimp).
  • Knowledge of environmental issues in Hamilton and commitment to the environment as demonstrated through previous volunteer commitments and/or employment.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. 
  • Class G driver’s license, clean driving record and access to a vehicle, or alternative way to get around the city. 
  • Must be able to obtain a Police Reference Check upon acceptance of the position.
  • Valid Emergency First Aid + CPR an asset. 
  • Knowledge of green building design and technology is an asset.

Canada Summer Jobs Funding Eligibility:

Funding for this may be provided by the Canada Summer Jobs program. Candidates would need to meet the following eligibility requirements:

  • Between 15 and 30 years of age;
  • Canadian citizens, permanent residents, or have official refugee protection status under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act; and
  • Legally entitled to work in Canada, according to relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations.
