Full-Time Recreation Assistant (Multiple Positions)
Job Description
The Grand Canal Retirement Residence is a new take on Independent Seniors Retirement Living in Welland, Ontario. The Grand Canal features exceptional views of the Welland Recreational Canal, walking trails and parks. Shopping, entertainment, sports, and fitness facilities are nearby.
Job Gym is assisting The Grand Canal Retirement Residence to recruit Recreation Assistant candidates who will be responsible for contributing to establishing new programs, policies, and procedures that support the programs and operation of the department.
Key Responsibilities:
- Participating actively in and contributing to the Continuous Preventive Health program
- Designing, implementing and evaluating recreation programs for the residents
- Promoting resident awareness and participation in leisure and recreation programs
- Maintaining records for the department including, assessments, evaluation of planned programs, and attendance/participation records
- Assisting in planning, organizing and developing special events, and outings
- Mentoring and assisting in supervision of volunteers
- Requisitioning supplies and materials as needed for programs under the direction of the Recreation Manager
- Working with family members, volunteer, and community groups to implement activities and programs that enrich the daily lives of the residents
Qualifications and Attributes:
- Grade 12 diploma; and diploma or degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in the field of Recreation, Physical Education, and/or Gerontology, or a closely related field
- Experience in facilitating a variety of programs in a senior friendly environment
- Excellent hospitality skills with a ‘customer comes first’ attitude
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with strong command of oral and written English
- Computer literacy
- Valid Ontario drivers license, clean driving record and willingness to operate company vehicle
- Valid First Aid and CPR, Safe Food Handling and Smart Serve Certificates
- Ability to provide current Vulnerable Persons Sector Police Check
- TB Test & Physician Fitness Statement upon hire
- WHMIS and additional health and safety certifications or training are assets
