Volunteer Virtual Child Mentors (Multiple Positions)

Big Brothers Big Sisters – Posted by jobgym225 Regional Municipality of Niagara, Ontario, Canada

Job Description

Virtual Child Mentors

Big Brothers Big Sisters mission is to enable life changing mentoring relationships for youth who face adversity and are in need of an additional, consistent, and supportive developmental relationship. In order to continuing supporting the children and youth in our programs, we need to keep them talking, keep them challenged, show them we care, and help them to see their futures are bright despite these challenging times.

Our professional staff will provide social connection at a time of physical distancing; be a community social safety net and support distance learning. Staff continue to support and monitor matches during COVID 19 through virtual platforms such as remote video meetings, telephone/text and email communications.

During these challenging times one of our main priorities is to ensure the protection of children in our communities. To this end we are still recruiting volunteers to mentor children and youth in our community as we continue to support them and to keep them safe. We have adapted our recruitment and volunteer screening process so that we can complete it virtually.

With social isolation currently in place we are looking for child mentors who can spare between 1 and 2 hours per week to mentor children remotely. We are looking for a minimum 6 months commitment.

Once school resumes we anticipate that the virtual mentor role will evolve into an in-person mentor at the school for an hour a week during the school year.

Please note – Virtual mentors undergo the same training and onboarding as normal mentors.
