Department: Kitchen

Position Title: Cook 2

Reports To: Executive Chef

Wage: $19.21

Position Summary: Prepares and cooks buffet and a la carte for the restaurant and for special occasions, conferences and other functions in a manner consistent with a superior dining facility.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Providing personalized and exceptional guest service at every given opportunity
  • Prepares and cooks items for breakfast buffet and the lunch a la carte menu
  • Sets up line for the lunch buffet when required and cooks all menu items on a daily basis
  • Work in and maintain a clean environment
  • Follow Lais Hotel Properties’ standards for food preparation
  • Assists in the preparation of stocks and soups as required under the direction of the Executive Sous Chef
  • All other duties as assigned

Secondary Responsibilities:

  • Having a thorough knowledge of Lais Hotel Properties’ products and services
  • Suggesting additional products and services meeting our guests’ specific preferences

Technical/Managerial/Administrative Requirements:

  • Basic knowledge of WHMIS is considered an asset
  • Standard first aid is considered an asset
  • Ability to work under minimal supervision
  • Understand and practice of safe food handling

Professional Requirements:

  • Grade 12 or equivalent experience
  • Theoretical training at a community college in a cook apprenticeship program for one year and 6000 hours of in-house on-the-job training under certified Chef or equivalent experience of 3-5 years
  • Excellent eye-hand coordination and fine motor skills for cutting, chopping and arrangement of meals on plate
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environmen
  •  Current Safe Food Handler’s Certificate
  • Previous up-selling and/or sales experience is considered an asset
  • Basic literacy skills

Physical Requirements:

  • Bending and lifting in excess of 50 lbs
  • Able to stand for long periods of time
  • Able to work in a hot environment
  • Work in a safe and responsible manner
  • Constant interruptions and noisy atmosphere make concentration difficult at times
