Seasonal Adventure Club Group Leader

Job Description

Positions available in St. Catharines and Niagara Falls
Dates: Saturdays 8:45 am – 3 :15 pm in July and August 2022
Specifically July 23, 30 and August 6, 13, 20 and 27th with training in advance.
Flexible schedule though staff must commit to a minimum of 3 Saturdays.
Option to work in fall program as well.
Rate: $15.25/hr.

Adventure Club is designed to provide children who are at-risk or in vulnerable
situation with a positive, outdoor recreational program. Children can enjoy being
a kid, feel safe and included, develop positive relationships, and celebrate their
uniqueness. Adventure Club staff have a passion for supporting and developing
resiliency in children who need it the most.

Group Leaders are responsible for the safety, supervision, and care of a group of
children. They will lead a variety of exciting activities for the children in their
group throughout the day, and ensure they have an amazing program
experience.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Provide consistent, effective communication with parents and other team members to ensure a successful program experience for everyone involved.
• Facilitate and participate in fun, active, and engaging programming.
• Role model positive behaviour for participants.
• Participate in active games, sports, water games, and other activities.
• Be energetic and flexible.
• Provide a fun, safe and supportive environment for participants.
• Embrace diversity and inclusion of all individuals.
• Ensure YMCA Adventure Club program outcomes and quality targets are achieved.
• Demonstrate empathy and caring towards participants ,staff, peers, and parents.
• All Counselors will share group counsellor, floater, cleaning, and break counsellor
responsibilities.
• Other duties as required.
• Participate in training and adhere to the YMCA Child Protection Policy and Procedures

QUALIFICATIONS:
• Experience working or volunteering with children or youth
• Values driven individuals who make excellent role models for children and youth
• Experience working in day or residential camp is an asset
• Energy, enthusiasm, and flexibility
• Current Standard First Aid with CPR-C
• A clear and satisfactory criminal record check inclusive of the vulnerable sector search (CRC VSS) issued for the YMCA of Niagara
• The ability to participate in ongoing physical activity and work in an outdoor environment in various weather conditions
