April Break Camp Group and Break Counsellors

 

Positions available in: St. Catharines, Niagara Falls and Port Colborne

Seasonal position 8 hrs/day (5 hrs/day for break counsellors)

Days of work: April 12-16, 2021 with training prior

Starting Wage $14.25

 

RESPONSIBILTIES:

  • Consistently effectively communicate with parents and other team members to ensure a successful camp experience for everyone involved.
  • Actively participate in programming.
  • Participate in active games, sports and other activities.
  • Be energetic and flexible.
  • Providing a fun, safe and supportive environment for campers.
  • Ensure YMCA Day Camp program outcomes are achieved.
  • Demonstrate empathy and caring towards campers, staff and parents.

 

Group Counsellors are responsible for the safety, supervision, and care of a group of 8 to 12 children.  They will lead a variety of camp activities for the children in their group throughout the camp day, and ensure they have an amazing camp experience.

 

Break Counsellors are scheduled for a portion of the day to cover Group and Program Support counsellors during their break.  Break staff are energetic and flexible staff that ensure campers experience no change in the scheduled program during the staff transition.  Access to a reliable vehicle is an asset.

 

Qualifications:

  • Experience working or volunteering with children or youth.
  • Applicants must be 16 years of age or older.
  • Values driven individuals who make excellent role models for children and youth.
  • Experience working in day or residential camp is an asset.
  • Energy, enthusiasm and flexibility.
  • Current Standard First Aid with CPR-C (within two years of issue date).
  • A clear and satisfactory criminal reference check inclusive of the vulnerable sector search (CRC VSS) issued for the YMCA of Niagara
  • The ability to participate in ongoing physical activity and work in an outdoor environment in various weather conditions.
  • All YMCA Staff are required to perform the following additional job duties as related to COVID-19:
    • Follow procedures and policies to help reduce the spread of COVID-19 as established by the YMCA of Niagara and informed by the Ministry of Health and Niagara Region Public Health.
    • Ensure established groups are maintained and support the tracking of interactions between staff and participants on site.
    • Lead activities that support social distancing and promote the health and safety of everyone involved.
    • Encourage, promote and role model social distancing and responsible health practices.
    • Follow guidelines and sound judgement about when to wear personal protective equipment.
    • Visually observe participants and other staff and report any new symptoms immediately.
    • Immediately report any health and safety concerns to your supervisor and health and safety representative.
    • Participate in self-screening when required, and act as a screener when required for staff and participants.
    • Stay home when you are sick or have any COVID-19 symptoms. Follow established call in procedures.
    • Participate in ongoing and scheduled cleaning and disinfecting of equipment and surfaces.
    • Follow proper hand washing procedures and ensure participants in your care are doing the same.
    • Participate in necessary meetings and trainings online utilizing your own device and Wi-Fi.

     

    DAY CAMP OVERVIEW:

    Camp runs Monday to Friday times from 8:00am to 5:00 pm. The majority of camp staff are scheduled to work between 7.5 and 8.5 hours per day.
