Job Description

Under the general supervision of the Department Manager, or Designate and within established policies, procedures, and guidelines to provide routine custodial cleaning services. The Custodial position will perform maintenance and minor repair to select custodial equipment, furniture, and facilities; implements set up and takedown for a variety of site related events.

Niagara Parks offers an hourly rate of $18.63 (Custodian Pay Band) for this position as well as the option to participate in the pension plan.

QUALIFICATIONS:

•Completion of a Secondary School Diploma or the equivalent knowledge and experience.
•Possession of a G drivers License.
•Minimum of one-year experience handling minor building/ equipment repairs and experience with cleaning materials and equipment.
•Ability to perform the physical requirements of the job.
•Ability to work independently.
•Ability to work variety of shifts as required (day/night/weekends/weekdays).
•Good oral and written communication.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

•Performs all cleaning activities on a systemic basis ensuring areas are maintained to high standards.
•Performs daily custodial routines (i.e., vacuuming, sweeping, mopping, dusting, shampooing, and spot
cleaning of carpets and upholstery; removing of trash; cleaning, disinfecting, cleans basins, toilets, mirrors, showers, and stocking with paper and supplies of restrooms).
•Completes laundering for the School of Horticulture Residence if applicable.
•Performs comprehensive custodial routines as assigned (i.e., stripping and waxing of floors; cleaning washing of all windows, walls, doors and exhibits, baseboards; cleaning and power washing pathways and floors).
•Removes garbage and recycling.
•Required to use a utility vehicle and trailer.
•Performs litter pick up as assigned.
•Sets up furniture/equipment for meetings, classes, functions both indoors and outside as assigned.
•Ensures removal of ice and snow as assigned.
•Performs minor maintenance duties throughout facilities such as greenhouse carts, cage doors and office furniture; replacement of a variety of light bulbs and fluorescent tubes, monitoring of heating radiators compressors and furnace filters, and greasing/oil checks for sub-pumps.
•Complies with all applicable legislation as well as any related safety policies and procedures.
•Works with good housekeeping practices, lockout/ tag out and safety to promote a safe working environment for all staff and guests.
•Reports and responds to emergency calls for custodial assistance.
•Services and maintains custodial equipment.
•Submits written order requests for supplies and materials.
•Reviews and ensures all WHMIS and MSDS standards are maintained for all work-related products.
•Reports all damages and equipment failures,
•Performs inspections and testing on fire extinguishers, smoke and CO2 detectors, and emergency lighting.
•Completes task check list documentation as required (i.e., circle checks and washroom maintenance list) Review and update task specific procedures or manuals.
•As assigned.
