Job Description
JOB TITLE- PRESS OPERATOR
Machines – Induction table, up setter, forge press, tape measure
SUMMARY
Through the course of the shift the operator is responsible for the set up and operation of the machine, routine maintenance and inspection of parts to maintain quality standards.
JOB TASK
To forge, trim and coin brake cams. Other duties may be assigned.
WORK HOURS
Operators typically work 8-hour shifts. They are allotted a 20-minute and two 10-minute breaks.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Get stock.
The operator gets one piece of bar stock from a bin.
- Load / unload induction heater.
The operator feeds the table with bar stock. After the bar is heated by passing through the table, the operator removes the bar.
- Upset
The operator walks to the upsetting press, positions the bar in the first die cavity and trips the press using a foot pedal. The stock is moved to the second cavity and the press is tripped using the foot pedal.
- Forge
The operator walks to the forge press, positions the upset bar in the first die cavity and trips the press using a foot pedal. The stock is moved to the second cavity and the press is tripped using the foot pedal. The stock is moved to the third cavity and the press is tripped using the foot pedal.
- Set part in bin.
The operator walks to the bin and places the part in the bin. The operator starts the next cycle. The cycle time is determined by the number of operators on the job.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

PREFERRED EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or general education degree.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
MATHEMATIC SKILLS
The ability to solve basic math – addition, subtraction, multiplication, division.
LIGHT INDUSTRIAL SKILLS
- Matching – the ability to identify differences in words or numbers that look similar.
- Counting – the ability to accurately count objects.
- Coding – Parts identification – the ability to understand work orders.
- Measuring – the ability to read measurements.
- Inspecting – the ability to identify differences in objects that look similar.
MECHANICAL REASONING
To perform this job successfully an individual must have knowledge of tools, machines and equipment and good manual dexterity and eye/hand co-ordination.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the work environment is elevated and hearing protection is required. Vision protection is also required.
