In what will no doubt be welcome news to hundreds, or possibly thousands of city residents, the local job market appears to be improving.

The “doom and gloom” that has clouded the job market seems to be subsiding, according to Job Gym manager Deanna Villella, as Welland employers are beginning to hire again, and manufacturing is starting to pick up, a badly needed turn of events here.

But make no mistake about it, the job market in Welland, Niagara and southern Ontario remains competitive, and it remains a “seller’s market” in terms of filling in vacant positions.

So Welland job-seekers should do everything they can to give themselves an advantage, especially stopping by the Job Gym.

All services provided there, from resume-polishing to interview-prepping as well as job listings, are free. While many communities saw their employment centres have their services reduced after a transformation in funding by the Ministry of Advanced Education and Skills Development, services in Welland were actually expanded to include adults as well as youth.

Whether the job hunt is for a part-time summer gig or a new career, the Job Gym can help, and do it all at a great cost.

“It’s not going to cost you anything,” Villella said.
